Teen Brain Health Topic: Teen Depression
I am interested in becoming an advocate for Teen Depression because it’s such a common and under acknowledged topic. I have seen how common symptoms are excused through peer dismissal. I believe its important for me to advocate and encourage conversation on aspects of teen behavior that I had concluded through first hand analysis. I want my peers to understand just how common mental disorders are and have an understanding on how to face such a taboo topic.
While making my Brain Health Proposal presentation I had kept in mind how basic and social needs may affect the brain and possibly lead to mental illness’. Therefore I had to understand what some general causes of depression were. Although there isn’t a pinpoint cause, there are some common attributions that may be connected to a diagnosis. Unmet basic and social needs may or may not show immediate effects on someone, but often can lead on through time. Depending on the stage of development the brain is in, it may have different outcomes. Teens rely on social pleasures as a reward, therefore their social needs are in a high demand. |
