The Audio File of the Interview |
Interview Summary |
My internship partner, Jamarai and I had an interview with my mentor, I was able to really get to know the process of her life and how she got to this current point. Shw explained her experiences in high school and how that lead her to the procurement of her career as a counselor. She also explained her experience through college. When my mentor, Ms. Garcia, explained her view of her job and workplace, I couldn’t help but admire the way my mentor has modeled the people and students in her career. It is very clear that she holds priority to all the young children in her life and she holds the same standards for all, including her own kids. This is extremely admirable to me my mentor holds such a deep care for the people around her in her home and in her workplace. This shows true balance and control of her priorities. She also explained the process of getting to this point. She didn't reach a balance until some time into her career. Ms. Garcia stated that she would find herself taking situations from her work, home and into her personal life. This would cut into her time with family. At a point a balance was found and she was able to serve all the people in her life effectively. I found this point in the interview very striking since I find myself struggling to find a form of balance in my life as well. It seemed very reassuring to see that finding a mid ground is something that can come at any time. Although, after my time at my internship, I believe that I have improved and become closer to meeting some goals I have set for myself. I believe I have definitely improved on my time management. Many times at my internship, the workload would come in waves and I wouldn’t have my internship partner there all the time to help me with it. Therefore I would have to plan around the workload that I had. I would plan the time I would come in, the time I would leave and I would set a loose schedule that would allow me to work on prioritized tasks. I believe this not only helped with my productivity but with me being on time. I have struggled with this form of time management all throughout my junior year. I am confident to say that my internship had eliminated that struggle and allowed me to meet my goal of understanding the importance of being on time.
